On the Nurse Gwenny Podcast

Gwenny introduces flight paramedic and nursing student Martin (“the mustache medic”) as a recurring co-host and they discuss “cardiac arrests that shaped us” from years in EMS, the ED, ambulance, and flight.

Martin recalls a first cardiac arrest from paramedic school and how being publicly berated by an ER doctor affected him, shaping how he now precepts with support rather than shame.

Gwenny shares her early training in a chaotic level-one trauma environment, how flight nursing forced her to adopt a calmer “slow is smooth, smooth is fast” approach, and a COVID-era pediatric arrest that was emotionally devastating but clinically controlled and instructive.

They emphasize respectful EMS-to-hospital handoffs, staying out of fight-or-flight to think clearly, preparing by reviewing protocols and doses before calls, and using difficult arrests to keep learning and improve.
